frequently asked questions

What To Expect

01. What concerns typically lead families to seek an evaluation?

Families and providers may seek evaluation for many reasons, including:

• Concerns about attention or executive functioning
• Suspected ADHD
• Questions about autism spectrum disorder
• Academic struggles despite appropriate effort or support
• Developmental differences
• Giftedness or twice-exceptionality
• Social communication concerns
• Medical or neurological conditions affecting development

02. Does my child need a diagnosis before pursuing an evaluation?

No. Many families seek evaluation precisely because they do not yet have answers.

A comprehensive evaluation can help clarify whether a child’s presentation is consistent with a specific diagnosis, whether multiple factors may be contributing, or whether another explanation better accounts for current concerns. The purpose of evaluation is to develop a clearer understanding of the child’s functioning and provide guidance for next steps.

03. Do you evaluate for ADHD? Autism? Learning disabilities?

Yes, yes, and yes!

A comprehensive evaluation can help identify complex profiles in which strengths coexist with learning differences, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, executive functioning challenges, or other areas of need.
Understanding the complete profile is essential for ensuring that a child’s strengths and support needs are both recognized.

04. What should my child expect during testing?

Children complete activities that may involve problem-solving, memory, language, academic skills, attention, and other areas relevant to the referral questions. Many of the activities resemble puzzles, brain teasers, or school work.

The goal is not to create a stressful testing environment or measure effort alone. The goal is to understand how the child approaches different types of tasks, identify strengths, and clarify areas where support may be needed.

05. Will my child receive a diagnosis?

When appropriate, the evaluation may result in diagnostic impressions based on current clinical criteria and the information available.

However, the purpose of evaluation extends beyond diagnosis. A meaningful evaluation explains the factors contributing to a child’s current challenges and provides recommendations that support functioning, learning, and development.

06. do you accept insurance?

No. Insurance companies often place limits on time and assessment measures used during an evaluation. Therefore, we do not interface with insurance companies to ensure the highest quality of evaluation. This also protects your family’s privacy around diagnoses given. Upon request, we are able to provide an itemized bill for families to submit to their insurance company.
